"Palm Desert quartet the Flusters gained some notoriety in 2016 when they were one of the local bands added to the Coachella lineup. Since then — besides remaining one of the sharpest-dressed bands out there — they’ve toured nationally and cultivated a retro/modern sound they call “Dreamsurf,” which is the title of their debut album. The foursome (singer-guitarist Dougie VanSant, guitarist-vocalist Danny White, bassist-vocalist Mario Estrada and drummer Daniel Perry) play an affecting mix of hyper-romantic guitar-pop that at times sounds like Morrissey giving a concert out of the back of a Woody at a beach party. Although the band name-checks influences such as Roy Orbison, Dick Dale, the Pixies, Echo & the Bunnymen and the Smiths, they point out that their touchstone song is Tito Y Tanrantula’s 1996 gem “After Dark,” renowned for its cameo in the Robert Rodriguez film “Dusk Till Dawn.” (Cue Salma Hayek doing her “Snake Dance.”) Keep that scene in your head when you hear the Flusters’ “When It’s Late at Night,” which along with other album highlights such as “Egyptian Musk” and “Little Mexico” appeared on the band’s 2017 EP". - Kevin Bronson // BUZZBANDS LA

The Flusters are back with the release of their new album “Dreamsurf,” a collection of the very first songs written by The Flusters which combines 7 tracks from their previously-released EP “Extended Play No. 1” and previously-released single “Everyday Dreaming”  with 6 new, unreleased tracks. The first half of the album was recorded in North Hollywood, CA at Ready Mix Studios in 2016 and the second half in Glendale, CA at Comp-NY in 2017. All tracks were mixed in Palm Desert, CA by Will Sturgeon. They were mastered by Carl Saff of Saff Mastering & Mark Chalecki of Little Red Book Mastering. Produced by Will Sturgeon & The Flusters. The name of the album, “Dreamsurf” aptly describes the sound: Dreamy, washy, surfy guitars mixed with driving retro pop tempos layered with gentle vocal delivery with tinges of grunge, post rock and analog synth soundscapes. The album, originally meant to be 2 EP’s, was written and arranged so that each song has a corresponding “mirror track” which can be thought of as  sort of a “Sonic Rorschach”. The Flusters plan on releasing special edition vinyl 45’s with corresponding “mirror tracks” as A & B sides. The album is heavily influenced by paranormal phenomena, specifically UFO and Alien Abduction. The album references Amalgamated Flying Saucer Club Of America zines from the 50’s and 60’s and directly references the writings of Bob Renaud, famed Alien Contactee.
